WHAT IS "SELECT" Softball?
The Select program was developed by USA Softball to allow competitive players to practice and/or play games together once a week during the recreational season. Players chosen for the Select team will be playing on two teams from January-April 2nd. Players will participate on their recreational team as well as practice and/or play games on Sundays with the Select team.
The Select team is in addition to the recreational season and players are required to participate in 75% of rec team games to be eligible to play in Select games on Sundays. To be considered for a Select team, players and parents must understand the requirements outlined below:
Select teams require an additional day of practice or game(s) per week from January through April 2nd (USA Softball has designated this as the end of the Select season). The additional day of play will usually be on Sundays.
Participation in the select program DOES NOT GUARANTEE your daughter will be selected and/or play on an all-star team.
Select players may play in tournaments out of San Diego County.
Does participation on a Select team requires an additional player fee ?
Select teams will travel to different fields and it is possible that there will be additional costs depending on the number of tournaments and/or games played. All fees are due upon acceptance on the final team rosters.
HOW ARE SELECT MANAGERS CHOSEN?
All coaches who are interested in managing a Select team must apply by January 12, 2024. Coaches should indicate on their application that they would like to also be considered for Select. The Board of Directors will choose the manager from the pool of candidates. The Select team manager will be announced before tryouts.
HOW ARE SELECT TEAMS FORMED?
Players who wish to be on a select team MUST participate in tryouts. Tryouts may take place over a couple days and players are encouraged to attend ALL tryout days.
Following tryouts, the board approved manager(s) will choose the select teams for each age division. The Board of Directors will vote to approve the rosters and teams will be announced by the Player Agent.
HOW IS SELECT DIFFERENT FROM RECREATIONAL SOFTBALL?
Select teams are not right for every player. This program was established by USA Softball to allow the most competitive girls in each division to practice at the highest level possible.
Participation on the Select team requires more dedication from the players and families. Playing time will NOT be equal. Players will not necessarily be rotated between infield and outfield or try different positions. The goal of Select managers will be to put the most competitive team on the field. Select provides an opportunity to players to develop a greater understanding of the game and enhance skill levels in all areas of the game.
